Part of the RCMP’s Duties is to protect those people that are under the VIP protection and we will look after their security while they are in Quebec City at the Summit.
We also help make sure that protesters are able exercise their right to protest.
It is probably my last mission within the RCMP and now to have my son under my command it was great.
We are talking about the largest deployment of dignitaries of the history of Canada.
Episode: May 4 and 7, 2010
With 66 countries in attendance, the 2008 Francophonie Summit in Quebec City hosted the largest number of delegations of foreign dignitaries in Canadian history. With big crowds come big risks: biological, chemical and explosive threats are just a few of the many scenarios that the RCMP must prepare for. Security must be air tight. The stakes are high for Chief Divisional Operations Officer, Supt. Jacques Tanguay’s last major assignment. The Summit will also provide Jacques with his first and only opportunity to have his son under his command…an emotional experience. Watch as RCMP units across the country unite and strive to protect the VIP’s and maintain Canada’s sterling international image.
