RCMP release sketch of suspect defrauding seniors, Moncton & Oromocto, N.B.

2010/8/16

The RCMP have released the sketch of a man believed to be responsible for frauds targeting seniors in New Brunswick.

The fraud involves a potential victim receiving a call from a person claiming to be an investigator from their bank or their bank manager requesting their help to solve an internal theft. The person is instructed to withdraw several thousand dollars from their bank account, then meet the caller outside the bank or at a designated location where they will exchange the money. It is only after the money has been exchanged that individuals realize they have been a victim of fraud.

On August 9, 2010, the Oromocto RCMP received a report of an elderly woman losing several thousands dollars in this scam. The following day, the same scam was attempted on a Riverview woman but she refused to cooperate.

The suspect is described as a white male, average height, slim build and clean shaven. He was wearing a trench coat and a hoodie.

Anyone with any information on this suspect or this crime is asked to contact the RCMP at 1-888-506-RCMP(7267) or anonymously at Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
