Youth sentenced in connection with rash of mischief and car theft, Oromocto, N.B.

On August 16, 2010 a 16 year-old youth from Lincoln appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court and pled guilty to twenty five (25) charges in connection with a recent rash of tire slashing and mischief in the Oromocto, Lincoln and Waasis area. The young person was facing a list of charges including theft of a vehicle, mischief, theft and trespass at night.

The judge sentenced him to six months house arrest and placed him on a strict curfew and other conditions.

During the evening of August 2nd and the early hours of August 3rd, seventeen vehicles on various streets located between Lansdown and Currie Crescent were vandalized. Oromocto RCMP received seventeen complaints from residents who discovered that tires on their vehicles had been punctured.

On the morning of August 12, 2010, an off-duty RCMP officer on his way to work came upon a vehicle in a ditch in the Rusagonis area. The vehicle had been stolen the night before. Four other youth were also arrested in connection with these incidents. They are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
