New Brunswick RCMP release 2009-2010 Annual Report, Fredericton, N.B.

2010/8/23

A drop in property crime and an increase in drug enforcement over the past two years are a few of the highlights from the New Brunswick RCMP’s 2009-2010 Year in Review: Becoming Canada’s Safest Province report.

The New Brunswick RCMP has made it their goal for the province to be the safest in Canada. To accomplish that goal, the RCMP have implemented a crime reduction strategy to focus police efforts on individuals and crimes which are doing the most harm to communities. The crime reduction strategy has resulted in a 5.6% drop in property crime since 2007. The RCMP have also focused efforts in the areas of drug production and drug trafficking. Enforcement in those areas together is up 14% since 2007.

“We have seen impressive results in New Brunswick since the implementation of our crime reduction strategy,” said the RCMP’s Commanding Officer in New Brunswick, Assistant Commissioner Wayne Lang. “To continue towards our goal of becoming the safest province, we will focus on crime reduction strategies, improving highway safety, diverting at-risk youth away from criminal behaviour and ensuring New Brunswick is a difficult place for organized criminals to do business.”
