With the goal of creating a workforce which reflect Canada's diverse make-up, the RCMP encourages Canadians from all backgrounds to consider a career nowhere near ordinary.
The RCMP currently employs more than 1,500 aboriginal people. The RCMP has initiatives designed to attract and employ aboriginal women and men across Canada.
The RCMP is committed to a membership which is representative of Canadian society and to promoting and supporting equity within its employment practices. Each year the RCMP offers Canadian aboriginal people from the ages of 19 - 29, the opportunity to get an inside look at daily police work of the RCMP through a program called the “Aboriginal Pre-Cadet Training Program” (APTP).
The Aboriginal Community Constable pilot program has been developed to attract, develop and retain persons with specific linguistic, cultural and community skills that will enable the RCMP to tailor our policing services to specific, community-identified, needs.
An Aboriginal Community Constable is an armed, uniformed peace officer at the rank of Special Constable. Their primary focus is to engage their communities in active crime prevention/reduction and to build positive relationships between their communities and the RCMP.
