Statement

The following is a statement from Supt. Paul Beauchesne, officer in charge of Codiac Regional RCMP, on the passing of Cst. Richer Dubuc. Cst. Dubuc, 42, died as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle crash on March 6, 2017, while on duty as a member of the RCMP Integrated Border Enforcement Team at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.

As the Officer in charge of Codiac Regional RCMP and on behalf of all staff I wish to express our condolences to the family of Cst. Richer Dubuc. He started his RCMP career with Codiac Regional RCMP in 2009, following his graduation from the RCMP Training Academy (Depot). Richer was fulfilling a lifetime dream.

He had just transferred to the RCMP Integrated Border Enforcement Team in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, in January of this year.

Richer was known as a man of "large stature" with a personality that matched. His co-workers called him "the gentle giant," because he was very tall and always in good spirits. He will be remembered as always having a smile on his face, but also the type of person who always stood up for others and was there to lend a hand either at work or in his personal life.

As a police officer, his greatest ability was how he was able to relate to everyone he encountered and was often able to resolve difficult situations just by listening and talking to those involved.

His contribution to the communities of Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview and to policing will not be forgotten. We are all feeling his loss.
