Bay Roberts responded to a vehicle collision on Water Street in Bay Roberts on October 8, 2020 and arrests the driver for impairment by alcohol.

Bay Roberts and Harbour Grace RCMP continues with enforcement of impaired drivers and remove five individuals from the roadways in five days.

At approximately 1:40 a.m. on October 7, 2020, RCMP received a report of a vehicle stopped in the middle of Main Road in Shearstown. When police arrived on scene, they found an intoxicated man sitting in the driver's seat. The 25-year-old Clarkes Beach man was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the detachment where he provided breath samples over two and a half times the legal limit. He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.

Later the same day at approximately 7:00 p.m., police responded to a report of a man believed to be drinking while driving in Upper Island Cove. Officers located the described vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Police observed an open box of alcohol inside the vehicle and suspected impairment by alcohol. The driver, a 57-year-old Upper Island Cove man, failed a roadside breath test and was issued a Summary Offence Ticket for open alcohol in the vehicle.

On October 8, at approximately 9:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a commercial vehicle that had collided with a utility pole on Water Street in Bay Roberts. When officers arrived on scene, the driver, a 49-year-old Bay Roberts man, was suspected to be impaired by alcohol. He failed a roadside breath test, was arrested for impaired driving and was transported back to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were almost three times the legal limit. He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.

The next day, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Harbour Grace RCMP received a report from the public of a possible impaired driver. Police located the described vehicle on Columbus Drive in Carbonear and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 70-year-old Carbonear man, was arrested and transported to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were two and a half times the legal limit. He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.

On October 13, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Bay Roberts RCMP received a report from the public of a possible impaired driver travelling on the Veterans Memorial Highway. Police located the described vehicle near Bay Roberts and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 64-year-old Western Bay man, failed road side breath testing, was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were in excess of the legal limit. He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.

In all cases, the drivers received a driving suspension and the vehicles were seized and impounded.
