Bay St. George RCMP remove four drivers from the road in one day

Bay St. George RCMP removed four drivers from the road in Stephenville on December 4, 2020.

At approximately 8:15 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Cornwall Heights. The driver, a 37-year-old Stephenville woman, was driving with a suspended licence and without insurance.

At approximately 10:50 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on St. George's Avenue. The driver, a 34-year-old Stephenville man, was driving without registration or insurance.

At approximately 11:10 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Queen Street. The driver, a 57-year-old Stephenville man, was driving with a suspended licence and without registration.

In all cases above, the drivers were issued tickets and their vehicles were impounded.

Later the same day, at approximately 3:00 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Main Street. The driver, a 38-year-old Stephenville man, was suspected to be impaired by drug. He failed a roadside sobriety test and was transported back to the detachment where a drug recognition evaluation was completed. Officers await the results of that testing to determine if charges of impaired driving are appropriate. The vehicle was impounded and the driver was issued a licence suspension.

In addition, on December 6, at approximately 8:15 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Zion Drive. The driver, a 36-year-old St. Teresa's man, was driving without insurance and registration and provided incorrect information regarding his identity. He was arrested for obstruction and charged under the Highway Traffic Act. The vehicle was impounded. The driver was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.
