Bell Island RCMP is investigating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) collision that occurred in the community on Christmas Eve.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on December 24, 2020, Bell Island RCMP responded to a report of a ATV collision on Hussey Street. An ambulance crew arrived on scene and the driver and lone occupant, a 47-year-old Bell Island man, was transported to Dr. Walter Templeman Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation into the collision is continuing and will look to determine if alcohol was a factor.

Bell Island RCMP reminds all residents who operate ATVs that it is unsafe to do so on roadways. Please drive safely and wear a helmet. Since January 1 of this year, 17 people have died while operating recreational vehicles – 14 on ATVs and three on snowmobiles. Police urge residents to be aware of the laws with respect to recreational vehicle use, which can be found here: Motorized Snow Vehicles and All-Terrain Vehicles Act.
