Burin Peninsula District RCMP arrests two impaired drivers over the weekend

Two impaired drivers were removed from the road following arrests by Burin Peninsula RCMP this past weekend.

At approximately 2:00 a.m. on October 24, police received a report of a vehicle that had gone off the road in Burin. Officers attended the scene on Winterland Road and found that the driver, a 29-year-old Marystown man, was impaired by a drug. He was arrested for impaired driving and refused to comply with a blood demand. He now faces charges of refusal and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. The car was seized and impounded and the driver was issued a driver's licence suspension.

Just before midnight on Sunday, October 25, police were on patrol and observed a vehicle driving erratically on the main road in Burin. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 40-year-old man, failed a roadside breath test and was arrested for impaired driving by alcohol. He was transported to the detachment in Marystown, where he provided breath samples that were more than one and an half times the legal limit. He now faces charges of impaired driving and was released to attend court at a later date. The truck was seized and impounded and the driver was issued a driver's licence suspension.
