Charges follow drug search in Yarmouth

Yarmouth RCMP has arrested three men and laid charges following a search for drugs and weapons at a Ford St. home.

Police obtained a search warrant for the home. The home was searched on July 12 and RCMP officers arrested three men found inside and seized a rifle, ammunition, cash, drugs and drug paraphernalia. Two of the three men were charged and remanded while the third was released. The men are identified as follows:

Matthew Gilbert Newell, 35, of Chebogue, charged with Trafficking, Breach of Conditions (3 Counts), Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm and Ammunition, and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm

Steven Graham Sheppard, 38, of Sandford, charged with Trafficking, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm and Ammunition, and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm

A 38-year-old man from Arcadia is facing charges of Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon

Newell and Sheppard were held in custody and will appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court today. The 38-year-old was released and will be charged in the coming days.

The investigation is ongoing.
