Bay St. George RCMP advises the fires on the Main Road in Heatherton are now extinguished and the roads are passable.
At approximately 8:40 a.m., police were called to the fire which originally started at a residence on Main Street. Officers attended the scene. The home is a total loss and burned to the ground. The fire spread to a vacant store causing damage and three other homes in the immediate area were damaged due to heat generated from the blaze.
Newfoundland Power are on the scene and are looking to restore power to residents in the area.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
