On September 16th, 2020, investigators from Yukon RCMP's Major Crimes Unit, with assistance from Ross River detachment, arrested and charged a Ross River man with first degree murder in connection to the August 2019 death of 59-year-old Mary Ann Ollie of Ross River.
Phillip Atkinson, 63, has been charged with first degree murder under the Criminal Code. He appeared in court the afternoon of September 17th, 2020 and has been held in custody until his next appearance on September 22nd.
Homicide investigations are lengthy and complex. The charges laid in this investigation are the result of 13 months of work by the Major Crimes Unit and Historical Case Unit investigators, with assistance from support units within the Yukon RCMP.
The RCMP wishes to share our condolences with the family of Ms Ollie, and thank the Ross River Dena Council and the community of Ross River for their patience and support while we worked to bring this investigation to the point it has reached today.
