Forty-nine-year-old woman sentenced to house arrest for fraud

A 49-year-old woman from Charlo, N.B., has been sentenced to two years of house arrest after pleading guilty to defrauding a New Brunswick school district.

On December 15, 2020, Chantal Berthelotte appeared in Campbellton Provincial Court and was sentenced to two years minus a day to be served under house arrest. She will remain in the community and will have to follow strict conditions as set by the court. She was also ordered to pay restitution of $50, 000. On January 13, 2019, Chantal Berthelotte was charged with fraud over $5,000 and pleaded guilty in October, 2020.

In 2014, the Campbellton RCMP received a report from the Francophone Northeast School District of financial irregularities in the budgets of École Aux-Quatre-Vents, in Dalhousie.
