Gander RCMP investigates stabbing; one man is arrested and charged

20-year-old Cameron Angell of Noggin Cove was arrested early this morning following a report of a stabbing at a Gander residence late last night.

At approximately 11:00 p.m., police received the report of a stabbing. The victim was at the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre receiving treatment for his injury when police received the call. Officers attended both the hospital and the residence and learned that the victim had been at a gathering earlier in the evening when he was allegedly stabbed by Angell. Angell left the home on foot prior to police arrival and was located a short time later walking on a roadway in Gander. He was arrested without further incident and, upon a search of his person, police located a prohibited weapon.

He was held in police custody overnight, attended court today and was released on court ordered conditions. His next court appearance is set for Feb 2, 2021.

Cameron Angell is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon

Angell and the victim, who was treated and released from the hospital, are known to one another. Police advise there is no current risk to public safety.
