Gander RCMP seizes five pounds of cannabis and some cash following a traffic stop conducted on August 25, 2020.

A Gander man and woman, both 18 years of age, are facing a number of charges following the seizure of five pounds of cannabis at traffic stop conducted by Gander RCMP on August 25, 2020.

Just before 11:00 p.m., Gander RCMP observed a car speeding on the Trans-Canada Highway. The vehicle was stopped by police and a strong odor of cannabis was coming from inside. Approximately five pounds of illicit cannabis was located within the vehicle.

The man, who was a passenger in the car, now faces charges under the Federal Cannabis Act for possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling and possession of illicit cannabis. He also faces charges under the Provincial Cannabis Control Act for possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis in a vehicle and underage possession of cannabis.

The woman now faces charges under the Provincial Cannabis Control Act for possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis in a vehicle, underage possession of cannabis and being the driver of a vehicle having cannabis readily available to a person in the vehicle.

Both individuals were released from custody and are scheduled to attend court in December, 2020.
