Grande Prairie RCMP have laid drug trafficking charges, following a vehicle stop in the city.

On Sunday Oct. 18, 2020 at approximately 6 p.m. Grande Prairie RCMP were conducting patrols when they observed a suspicious truck in the area of 97a Street and 100 Avenue. RCMP determined through their investigation that the licence plate did not match the truck and subsequently conducted a traffic stop. Upon further investigation police also learned that the driver did not have a valid operator's licence and had outstanding warrants for his arrest. During a search of the truck police located 47.29 grams of bluish/purple fentanyl, 53 grams of methamphetamine and Canadian currency.

The 56-year-old male driver from Fort McMurray was charged with:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Fentanyl
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime under $5000.00
  • Operate an uninsured vehicle on a highway
  • Operate a vehicle without a subsisting licence.

The male is currently in custody awaiting a judicial interim release hearing.
