News release

A 70-year-old Salmon Cove man was arrested for impaired driving by Harbour Grace RCMP on September 12, 2020.

At approximately 9:00 p.m., Harbour Grace RCMP was on patrol in Carbonear and observed a white pick up truck, that was parked on the side of the road, pull slowly onto Water Street traveling well below the speed limit. The vehicle drifted over the white fog line and police attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle kept traveling at a low speed and eventually pulled into an apartment building.

The officer got out of the patrol car, spoke to the driver and suspected he was impaired by alcohol. The man failed a roadside breath test and was arrested for impaired driving. He was transported to the detachment and provided breath samples that were more than the legal limit. His vehicle was seized and impounded and his license was suspended.

The driver was released from custody, charged with impaired driving and is set to attend court in November, 2020.
