On the evening of December 29, RCMP police officers conducted an enforcement initiative to target the misuse and illegal operation of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) on the roads of Harbour Grace and Carbonear, resulting in five individuals charged and their ATVs seized. Charges include operating an ATV outside an approved area and operating an ATV on a road without insurance and without a driver's license. The five ATVs have been impounded at the owners' expense.

On November 30, RCMP NL launched a social media campaign and enhanced enforcement initiative targeting reckless operation of recreational vehicles. Since January 1 of this year, 17 people have died while operating recreational vehicles in RCMP NL detachment areas – 14 on ATVs and three on snowmobiles. Police urge residents to drive safely and be aware of the laws with respect to recreational vehicle use, which can be found here: Motorized Snow Vehicles and All-Terrain Vehicles Act.
