Liquor seizure

Yesterday on June 24, 2020 Iqaluit RCMP conducted, and executed a search warrant at a residence as part of an on-going Liquor Act investigation. The search resulted in the seizure of twenty-one 60-ounce bottles of liquor and a large amount of cash.

29-year-old Gabriel Martinez of Iqaluit, NU was arrested and is facing several charges under the Nunavut Liquor Act, including selling liquor to a minor. He was released from custody and is set to make his first appearance on August 20, 2020 in Iqaluit, NU.

"Bootlegging remains to be a concerning issue that is harming our beautiful communities and I encourage people to come forward to help reduce the harm and help keep our communities safe" said Corporal Jamie Savikataaq.

Nunavut RCMP would also like to remind residents that anyone can report or provide information on illegal activities including bootlegging by calling your local Detachment or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800- 222-8477. You can also text a tip to Crime Stoppers. The process if completely secure and anonymous. Text NWTNUTIPS plus your message to 274637 (CRIMES).
