Man arrested following seizure of 690-thousand illegal cigarettes

The New Brunswick RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime unit has arrested one person and seized a significant amount of contraband cigarettes as part of an ongoing investigation.

On November 4, 2020, police stopped a vehicle hauling a trailer on Highway 2 near Salisbury, N.B. During the stop, police noticed contraband tobacco inside the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle and trailer revealed 690-thousand illegal cigarettes. The cigarettes were seized and a 32-year-old Moncton man was arrested and later released from custody.

The investigation is ongoing.

Members of the Southeast District RCMP and officers of the Justice and Public Safety Department assisted during the investigation.
