Man charged with attempted murder in connection with November shooting

A 30-year-old man from Moncton, N.B., has been charged with several offences, including attempted murder, in connection with a shooting incident that happened in Dieppe in November 2019.

On November 9, 2019, at approximately 1:00 p.m. police responded to a call that a firearm had been discharged inside a residence on Chartersville Road. A 28-year-old man was injured in the incident and was taken to hospital with what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

A 29-year-old man was arrested a short distance from the residence, and was held in custody for breaching conditions of his parole.

On October 8, 2020, Devlin Earl Edward O'Blenis appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of video conference and was charged with the following offences:

  • attempted murder by discharging a restricted or prohibited firearm
  • attempted murder by discharging a firearm with intent to kill
  • having discharged a restricted or prohibited firearm with intent to wound or endanger a life (two counts)
  • aggravated assault

Devlin O'Blenis remains incarcerated, and is scheduled to appear in court on October 29.
