Melfort RCMP - Two males charged after execution of a search warrant in St. Brieux

On December 8, 2020, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Melfort RCMP, with the assistance of Tisdale RCMP, the Prince Albert RCMP Police Dog Service, Smeaton RCMP and the Saskatchewan RCMP Legal Application Support Team, executed two search warrants in the Town of St. Brieux, SK, as part of an illegal firearms investigation.

During the searches, firearms, weapons, methamphetamine and numerous stolen items were found. Two males and two females were arrested without incident.

49-year-old Blake Gaillard, from St. Brieux, SK, has been charged with the following offences:

  • careless use of a firearm, section 86(1) of the Criminal Code;
  • possession of a firearm when prohibited, section 92(3)(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • possession of a firearm with tampered serial number, section 108(2) of the Criminal Code;
  • possession of a weapon contrary to a probation order (4 counts), section 117.01(3) of the Criminal Code;
  • possession of property obtained by crime (3 counts), section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • possession of methamphetamine, section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

46-year-old Barkley Swenson, from St. Brieux, SK, has been charged with the following offences:

  • possession of a weapon contrary to a probation order (2 counts), section 117.01(3) of the Criminal Code;
  • possession of property obtained by crime (2 counts), section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • possession of methamphetamine, section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The two females were released without charges.

The investigation is ongoing.

Blake Gaillard and Barkley Swenson first appeared on December 9, 2020, at the Nipawin Provincial Court via phone and will stay in custody until their next appearance at the Melfort Provincial Court on December 14, 2020 at 9:30 a.m.
