Queens County, Prince Edward Island

News release

On the evening of Saturday, November 14th at approximately 7:00 p.m., an RCMP officer on patrol observed an erratic driver on Upton Road in Charlottetown.

After stopping the car, a 25 year-old male driver from Charlottetown displayed gross signs of impairment and was arrested. Subsequent testing resulted in alcohol readings of close to three times over the .08 mgs legal limit.

He was charged and will be in court in December.

Also, early Sunday morning, November 15th, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Queens District RCMP responded to a driving complaint of an erratic driver travelling from Charlottetown to Cornwall.

RCMP were able to locate the vehicle parked at a Cornwall location.

The 21 year-old male driver displayed signs of alcohol consumption and was read the Approved Screening Device Demand for Roadside Testing. The man eventually failed to provide a sample of his breath and was charged with refusal and released on a December court date.

It's important for drivers to understand that failure or refusal to comply with a demand made by a peace officer for a sample for testing sobriety can result in criminal charges that have the same penalties as impaired driving. There are range of fines and periods of driving prohibition for those convicted of driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
