RCMP executes another drug seizure in Happy Valley-Goose Bay

RCMP officers in Happy Valley-Goose Bay have executed another drug seizure stemming from a traffic stop in the community on December 3, 2020.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., police on patrol observed a truck swerving on Hamilton River Road. The officer conducted a traffic stop and suspected the driver, 24-year-old Peggy Heard, was impaired. She was taken into police custody and a quantity of drugs were located on her person. Police initiated an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and also arrested the passenger, 37-year-old Joelene Pardy, for possession of a controlled substance.

The truck was searched and seized by police. A quantity of cash, suspected cocaine and items consistent with drug-trafficking were located and seized.

RCMP General Investigation Section filed charges against both women. Each are charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

In addition, Heard provided a breath sample which determined her blood alcohol concentration was above provincial legislation. Her driver's licence was suspended.

Both women were released by police on conditions and are set to appear in court on March 1, 2021.
