RCMP NL lays charges following hit and run that left man seriously injured in Sheshatshiu

On October 5, 2020, Rachelle Rich, Kurtis Somers, Nutin Andrew and Aurora Andrew, of Sheshatshiu, were charged in relation to an investigation into a hit and run that occurred in April, 2020.

In the early morning hours of April 23, 2020, Sheshatshiu RCMP responded to a report of an injured man who was found laying on the roadway on Beach Road in Sheshatshiu.

RCMP Labrador District General Investigation Section conducted an investigation along with assistance from RCMP officers with Sheshatshiu Detachment, Forensic Identification Services, Traffic Services and Avalon East General Investigation Services.

On October 5, 2020, Rachelle Rich was charged with the following offences:

  • failure to remain at the scene of a collision
  • public mischief
  • various offences under the Highway Traffic Act

Kurtis Somers, Nutin Andrew and Aurora Andrew are each charged with public mischief in relation to the information that they provided to police during the course of the investigation.

The RCMP is continuing a separate investigation into another hit and run that happened outside of Happy Valley-Goose Bay involving the death of a 26-year-old Sheshatshiu man in August, 2020.
