The RCMP on Prince Edward Island would like to inform islanders that there is a telephone scam circulating that seeks to obtain personal information (SIN number). The automated caller identifies himself as the RCMP and indicates that your SIN number may have been compromised and requests that you press 1 on your keypad to initiate security measures. The RCMP does not operate in this fashion and you are encouraged to end the call immediately.
The RCMP would like to advise the public that email and phone scams continue to plague Islanders and encourage everyone to ensure they do not provide personal or banking information over the phone or through the internet or email.
