On December 8th, 2020 Whitehorse RCMP received a report of a heavy equipment business operating in Whitehorse that was possibly fraudulent. The business was running a website that displayed machinery and equipment including photographs and specifications. Many items had a purchase price in excess of $30,000.00.
At first glance the website seemed credible; however, after verification, it was evident that the business, Sunshine Machinery, did not have a licence to operate and the address listed on the website did not exist
Whitehorse RCMP recommends attempting to make contact and establish the validity of the vendor when purchasing high value items on the internet. This includes viewing items in person whenever possible.
Police encourage anyone who believes they may have lost money to one of these scams to call the Whitehorse RCMP non-emergency line at 867-667-5555.
