Rocky Harbour RCMP warns about a new scam involving pre-paid Visa with $100 credit to be activated using a portion of the person's social insurance number.
Letter that accompanied the pre-paid Visa card.

Rocky Harbour RCMP is warning the public of a new scam involving what appears to be a pre-paid Visa card with a $100.00 credit, addressed to essential workers as an appreciation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the past few days, Rocky Harbour RCMP has received a number of reports from residents who received an envelope in the mail marked as being from Trucash which contains the Visa card. A letter accompanies the card explaining the process for online or over the phone activation. One of the steps to activate the card requires the input of the last four digits of the person's social insurance number.

The card is black in color with the word Visa in the bottom right corner. The bottom left side of the card says "100 DOLLARS THANK YOU-MERCI".

Please take note that this is a scam.

RCMP NL urges the public not to share any part of their social insurance number in this manner.

To report a fraud, please contact your local police and contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by phone 1-888-495-8501 or visit them at: https://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/index-eng.htm
