In order for us to be an effective police service, we must have the public's trust and confidence, which is a necessity for any police agency and a cornerstone on which we base our policing response. We understand that events, both recent and past, have had an impact on the public's perception of the police.

We want you to know that we are listening and we understand the weight of what is happening in the United States and here in Canada. There's no denying that racism exists. We are actively working to combat it, both within policing and society at large. We hear the concerns being raised by citizens everywhere and recognize we still have strides to make as the provincial police service.

Our employees are trusted to uphold our core values of honesty, integrity, professionalism, compassion, accountability and respect.

For the rare instances where an employee does not adhere to these high standards, they will be held accountable for their actions. There are internal processes in place to respond to these situations. Further, we would support an independent oversight body in the province.

We must all come together to stand up for the rights of others. While there is still progress to be made, we continue to work to strengthen relationships with our communities. We commit to bias-free policing and vow to always pay attention, both as members of our communities and as RCMP employees.
