Shots fired at a residence in St. Georges, man in custody faces number of charges

Thirty-four-year-old Todd Barry, who allegedly fired a shot at a residence in St. Georges yesterday evening, was arrested by Bay St. George RCMP and is charged with multiple criminal offences.

Shortly before 6:00 p.m., police received the report from an occupant of the home who stated that Barry discharged a firearm at the residence. The shot entered into the home causing damage to the residence. Fortunately, no one was injured and Barry departed the area on foot. As police were responding, officers received further reports stating that Barry pointed a firearm at a number of other individuals in the community.

Officers from Bay St. George Detachment, along with Police Dog Services, attended the scene.

Approximately 40 minutes later, police located Barry driving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) carrying a passenger along the Main Road. Officers activated emergency equipment to stop the ATV but Barry fled from police. The ATV turned onto Court House Road and ended up in a ditch. Barry, who was found to be impaired, was taken into custody with the assistance of Police Service Dog Axel, and was transported to the hospital where he received treatment of his injuries. He was released from the hospital later in the evening and was held in police custody overnight. He attends court today.

Barry, who was wanted by Correctional Service of Canada for a warrant of apprehension, is charged with a total of 33 criminal charges in relation to this incident. Some of those charges include:

  • Discharging a firearm at a residence
  • Careless use of a firearm (multiple counts)
  • Pointing a firearm (multiple counts)
  • Possession of a firearm while prohibited (multiple counts)
  • Flight from police
  • Impaired driving
  • Prohibited driving
  • Dangerous driving
  • Assault on police
  • Uttering threats

The firearm was recovered by police today. RCMP Forensic Identification Services and an Analyst with RCMP Traffic Services were engaged. The investigation is continuing.
