News release

A 62-year-old man from the Northern Peninsula was arrested for impaired operation of a boat following an investigation conducted by St. Anthony RCMP on July 21, 2020.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., police received a report of a suspected impaired driver who was operating a boat in Gunners Cove. Police responded and met the boat coming in to shore.

An officer spoke to the operator, who was the lone occupant of the vessel, and suspected he was impaired by alcohol. The man failed a breath test administered at the scene and was arrested for impaired operation. He was transported to St. Anthony Detachment and provided breath samples that were above the legal limit.

His driver's licence was suspended and he was released from custody. He is set to attend court in September, 2020, to answer to charges of impaired operation.
