News release

On Oct. 29, 2020, the Sundre RCMP, with the assistance of the RCMP Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, arrested two individuals who were staying at a local hotel in the Town of Sundre. The police obtained a search warrant for their hotel room and the subsequent search yielded a varied quantity of illegal drugs, which included cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine. A substantial amount of Canadian currency was also located and seized as the cash was allegedly obtained through proceeds of crimes.

A 45-year-old male of no fixed address and a 17-year-old female youth from Olds, who is of no relation to the 45-year-old male, were charged with drug trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Both individuals were brought before a Justice of the Peace and the 45-year-old male was remanded into custody to speak to his matter in provincial court in Didsbury at a later date. The female youth was given court-imposed conditions and released to a relative and will speak to her matter in provincial court in Didsbury at a later date.

"The combined efforts of the Sundre RCMP detachment and the RCMP Southern Alberta CRU were effective in shutting down this individual's criminal activity within the Town of Sundre. Not only did this individual prey on our vulnerable but brought unwanted criminality into the Sundre community. This combined effort of hard work furthers our objectives of reducing rural crime and striving towards safer communities in Alberta" – RCMP Sundre Cpl Joe Mandel
