Thorsby RCMP on scene at plane crash

At 1:41 p.m. today, Thorsby RCMP were alerted to a Harmon Rocket plane having crashed onto a field near Township Road 504 and Range Road 21, and then the plane caught fire. Thorsby RCMP attended and located two deceased occupants in the plane.

Transportation Safety Board will be conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash. RCMP with the assistance of the Leduc County Fire Department held the scene pending the arrival of the Transportation Safety Board.

Further investigation has indicated that the plane was travelling from Rocky Mountain House, Alta., prior to the crash with two occupants, a 59-year old male who was piloting the plane and a 48-year-old female passenger, both from Rocky Mountain House.

The Thorsby RCMP remain on scene at this time.
