A 30-year-old man is under investigation for impaired driving following a checkpoint that was conducted by RCMP in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on June 6, 2021.
RCMP officers from Traffic Services Labrador, along with Happy Valley-Goose Bay Detachment and a Municipal Enforcement Officer, checked more than 250 vehicles during the check point on Route 520. The 30-year old driver, who was suspended from driving, was operating a vehicle that was without insurance or registration. The man showed signs of impairment and provided a roadside breath test with results that were above the provincial limit. In addition, he tested positive for cannabis on the roadside drug screening equipment. He was arrested for impaired driving, provided with a blood demand and was transported to the local hospital where a sample of his blood was obtained for further analysis.
The investigation is continuing to determine if charges of impaired driving are appropriate. The man received a further driver's licence suspension and his vehicle was seized and impounded.
A number of other motorists were ticketed for various traffic violations.
