Drunk driver injured in rollover crash to face criminal charges

A man who survived a rollover crash in Freshwater on December 27 will face criminal charges.

Just after 11:00 a.m. on December 27, Harbour Grace RCMP and emergency medical crews responded to reports of a single vehicle rollover crash in Freshwater between Carbonear and Victoria. The driver, a 43-year-old man, and his passenger were medically assessed at the scene by emergency paramedics.

Investigators at the scene initiated an impaired driving investigation. The driver was transported by ambulance to hospital for a full medical assessment. Once cleared medically, he was taken into police custody and transported to the Bay Roberts RCMP Detachment in order to continue the investigation.

The driver provided samples in excess of the legal limit for alcohol. He was released from police custody and is expected to appear in court at a later date to face Criminal Code impaired driving charges. The man's vehicle was impounded and his driver's licence suspended.
