On Dec. 3, 2021, shortly after midnight, the Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit observed a vehicle that was being driven erratically. The vehicle was later located abandoned on a rural property on the Westside of Grande Prairie, Alta. near Township Road 720.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Grande Prairie on Nov. 9, 2021. With the assistance of Grande Prairie RCMP and RCMP Police Dog Services, a male was located and arrested. It was determined the male was the driver of the stolen vehicle.
A search of the vehicle located a 12-gauge shotgun and several break-in tools.
A 27-year-old male of Hythe, Alta. has been charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- Careless use of firearm
Following a judicial hearing, he was released from custody on a release order and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Dec. 15, 2021.
