Greater Moncton traffic operation targets impaired drivers

The Codiac Regional RCMP conducted recent traffic enforcement in Dieppe, Moncton and Riverview, targeting impaired drivers.

On December 4, 2021, members of the Codiac Regional RCMP conducted several traffic check stops throughout the evening as part of National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day. During the operation, approximately 200 cars were checked, two drivers were arrested for impaired driving, two drivers were issued a seven-day driver's license suspension for driving while under the influence of alcohol and two drivers were issued tickets for driving with a suspended license. Twenty-one traffic tickets were also issued for various motor vehicle violations

"As the holiday season approaches, we want to ensure everyone has a safe way to and from their destinations," said S/Sgt. Patricia Levesque with the Codiac Regional RCMP. "We are reminding everyone of the dangers related to impaired driving, and are urging motorists to always drive sober, or to plan ahead by having a designated driver or call a taxi."

The public plays an essential role in keeping our roadways safe. If you suspect or are aware of an impaired driver, please call 9-1-1 immediately in a safe manner. Providing as much information as possible regarding the vehicle, driver, location, and direction of travel can help police get impaired drivers off the road.
