Harbour Grace RCMP stops speeding vehicle and seizes contraband tobacco

A 58-year-old man, who was speeding, is under investigation for possession of contraband tobacco following a traffic stop conducted by Harbour Grace RCMP on December 8, 2021.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., a speeding car passed an unmarked patrol vehicle on Route 70 in Carbonear. Officers conducted a traffic stop and observed contraband tobacco within the vehicle. The driver was arrested and his car was searched. A quantity of unstamped tobacco was seized pursuant to the Excise Act. Following the traffic stop, the driver was released from police custody.

The investigation is continuing.
