Structure damaged by fire

Whitehorse RCMP and Whitehorse Fire Department are investigating a suspicious fire at a structure in Whitehorse, YT, on November 23, 2021. The train car that sat at the waterfront at Front Street and Wood Street was damaged.

At around 1:05 am, a witness in the area alerted police and fire to the burning train car. Thanks to the quick response from the Whitehorse Fire Department, the flames did not spread to any other nearby structures. There were no reported injuries.

Police and Fire Investigators have reason to believe that the fire was intentionally set. The Yukon RCMP Forensic Identification Services is involved with the investigation as well.

Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who may have seen something before or after the fire started, and to businesses with surveillance cameras in the area.
