Hinton RCMP charge suspect in attempted catalytic converter theft

On Dec. 6, 2021, at 5:59 a.m., Hinton RCMP received reports of a break and enter in progress at a business on Felaber Road. Police attended and located a male being restrained by witnesses who discovered him attempting to steal catalytic converters. The catalytic converters were recovered with numerous other items of property including tools, saws, cable cutters and blades. Also recovered were weapons, which included bear spray and a knife. The value to repair the damaged catalytic converters is estimated to be approximately $11,000.

A 30-year-old male of no fixed address is charged with the following offences from this incident:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Mischief Over $5000
  • Possession of Break in Instruments
  • Carry a Concealed Weapon
  • Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order

The investigation determined the male also had outstanding warrants arrest from Morinville, Alta. for the following:

  • Identity Fraud
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Fail to Attend Court

Following a judicial hearing, he was released on conditions and is next scheduled to appear in Hinton Provincial Court on Dec. 15, 2021. As these matters are now before the courts, no further details can be released.
