June 9, 2021
Cardigan, Prince Edward Island

News release

Tuesday June 8th, 2021 at 9:30 pm, members of the Kings District RCMP were conducting a traffic check-stop on Route #4 in Cardigan.

A pickup truck driven by a 44 year-old man from Kings County was stopped during the check-stop. The driver provided a sample of his breath roadside which indicated he had above the allowable amount of alcohol in his system to be driving. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Montague RCMP Detachment where he provided samples of his breath almost double the legal limit. He is subject to a 90 day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days at his expense. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Georgetown Provincial Court in the near future.

PEI RCMP are committed to keeping the roads on our Island safe by conducting random check-stops and taking other enforcement measures to ensure that drivers are not driving impaired, risking the lives of themselves and others.

If you suspect an impaired driver you are encouraged to call 911.
