Lewisporte RCMP warns residents to lock their vehicles following recent thefts

Lewisporte RCMP is warning residents to lock their vehicles following a recent rash of thefts of property from unlocked vehicles in Lewisporte.

Between April 27 and 29, 2021, Lewisporte RCMP received seven reports of thefts of items, including money (coins), ipods, a cell phone, wallets, bank cards and credit cards, from unlocked vehicles, while parked in driveways overnight. A number of streets were hit, including Tizzard Street, Beaumont Street, Main Street, Hillgrade Street and First Avenue.

Lewsiporte RCMP asks the public to check any available surveillance footage.

RCMP NL reminds motorists to ensure their vehicles are locked at all times while parked overnight, with valuables out of sight. The use of exterior lighting and surveillance equipment is encouraged, as a means of deterrence. Police continue to patrol the area and ask the public to report any suspicious activities.
