Last evening, RCMP Headquarters was brightened with the launch of the RCMP NL 2021 Make-A-Wish Wish Tree campaign. Chief Superintendent Deanna Hill, Acting Commanding Officer of RCMP NL, flipped the switch to light up the 24-foot Christmas tree and officially launch the annual campaign. Participating RCMP detachments throughout the province will light up their trees in December.
Initiated 35 years ago, this campaign by RCMP NL, with tremendous support from the community, has raised over $450,000 to grant wishes to children in Newfoundland and Labrador diagnosed with a life-threatening illness or a severe genetic or neurological condition.
"I am so proud of the amazing impact the RCMP Wish Tree campaign has had in making wishes come true for children and families," said Chief Superintendent Hill. "The incredible amount of money raised would not be possible without the dedication of our police officers and all employees, as well as our community partners and residents throughout the province who have supported the Wish Tree campaign and made it a success. My goal is for the money raised this year to put us over the half million dollar mark!"
Attendees at the launch of the RCMP NL Wish Tree campaign included Make-A-Wish Chapter Advisory Board Chair Larry Vodden, Provincial Director Barry Fowler, Chief Superintendent Hill, Wish Ambassador Logan Millard, RCMP employees and other supporters.
"We have such a tremendous relationship with the RCMP in Newfoundland and Labrador and are so humbled by their spirited participation in many initiatives, especially the Wish Tree campaign," said Barry Fowler. "They are truly dedicated to our mission of granting life-altering wishes to critically ill children in our province."
