Man charged with forcible confinement and aggravated assault

A 26-year-old man from Perth-Andover, N.B., has been charged with forcible confinement and aggravated assault following an incident in the community.

On June 8, 2021 at approximately 2 a.m., members of the Perth-Andover RCMP responded to a report of an injured man in an apartment building on Main Street. The man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.

Later that morning, as part of the ongoing investigation, police executed a search warrant at a different apartment in the same building where the altercation is believed to have occured. A 26-year-old man was arrested without incident. Police also seized a prohibited firearm and drugs.

Donald James Pirie appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court on June 9, and was charged with forcible confinement and aggravated assault. He was ordered to undergo a five-day psychiatric assessment and is scheduled to return to court on June 15.

The investigation is ongoing.
