Manitoba RCMP Monthly Police-Reported Crime Statistics – November 2021

Calls for Service – November 2020 to November 2021:

East District: +2% (6,001 to 6,112)

West District: +1% (3,985 to 3,960)

North District: +31% (3,866 to 5,064)

Overall, the Districts' occurrence counts (combined) increased by 9% (from 13,852 to 15,136), with Manitoba North District experiencing the largest increase of 31% and Manitoba West District having the smallest increase of 1%.

Manitoba East District

The following increases and decreases are being highlighted:

Common Police Activities

There was an overall increase of 9% (670 to 731) in occurrences captured under Common Police Activities over November 2020. Specifically, Wellbeing Checks occurrences increased 34% (85 to 114) and Persons Reported Missing were up by 20% (56 to 67).

Crimes Against the Person

This category had an overall increase of 5% (343 to 359). Most notably, Assault occurrences increased 15% (192 to 220).

Crimes Against Property

Occurrences captured under Crimes Against Property had an overall decrease of 11% (801 to 711). Of note, occurrences of Theft under $5,000 were down 9% (from 152 to 139) and Theft over $5,000 decreased 13% (from 112 to 98).

Drug Enforcement

There was a decrease of 16% (from 37 to 31) in this category.

Manitoba West District

The following increases and decreases are being highlighted:

Common Police Activities

This category had an overall increase of 11% (487 to 541). The highest increase within this category were Persons Reported Missing occurrences which rose 80% (from 45 to 81).

Crimes against the Person

There was an overall decrease of 15% (283 to 240) in this category. Most notably, Assault occurrences decreased 18% (from 174 to 142).

Crimes against Property

Occurrences captured under the Crimes against Property category saw an overall increase of 55% (462 to 714). Significant increases were seen in Break and Enters, up 91% (55 to 105), Frauds, up 65% (68 to 112) and Theft under $5,000 which went up 66% (90 to 149).

It is important to note, that while these increases appear high, they are in line or lower than pre-pandemic numbers. For instance, in November 2019, the number of Break and Enter occurrences was 137 (105 in 2021), and the number of Thefts under $5000 occurrences was 198 (149 in 2021).

Drug Enforcement

This category had an overall decrease of 18% (33 to 27).

Manitoba North District

During November 2021, over November 2020, Manitoba North District reported increases in all occurrence groups, with notable increases in Crimes against Person and Crimes against Property. The following increases and decreases are being highlighted:

Common Police Activities

Occurrences captured under this category had an overall increase of 54% (563 to 869). There was a notable increase in Wellbeing Checks which were up 94% (67 to 130).

Crimes Against the Person

Crimes against Person had an overall increase of 62% (443 to 716). Assault occurrences were up 59% (354 to 562), Robbery/Extortion/Harassment/Threats were up 92% (52 to 100) and Sexual offence occurrences were up 45% (29 to 42).

While these increases appear high, they are in line or lower than pre-pandemic numbers. For instance, in November 2019, the number of Assault occurrences was 607 (562 in 2021), Robbery/Extortion/Harassment/Threats occurrences was 110 (100 in 2021) and Sexual offence occurrences was 65 (42 in 2021).

Crimes Against Property

Occurrences captured under Crimes Against Property increased 77% (558 to 988). Of note, Break and Enter occurrences were up 155% (from 29 to 74), Mischief up by 90% (from 426 to 809) and Theft over $5,000 increased by 16% (19 to 22). While Theft under $5,000 decreased 17% (from 66 to 55).

Again, while some of these increases appear high, they are also in line with pre-pandemic numbers. For instance, in November 2019, the number of Break and Enter occurrences was 63 (74 in 2021), and Theft over $5,000 occurrences was 26 (22 in 2021).

Drug Enforcement

There was an increase of 32% (31 to 41) in this category. Specifically, Possession increased from 3 to 8 (up 167%) and Trafficking increased from 25 to 28 (up 12%).
