Peace Regional RCMP heavy police presence in Grimshaw – Update 2 – Charges laid

On Nov. 23, 2021, and Nov. 24, 2021, two search warrants were executed on a residence and an out building in Grimshaw, Alta. with the assistance of the RCMP Emergency Response Team, Western Alberta District General Investigation Section (WAD GIS) and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST).

Two suspects, an adult male and a male youth were arrested and charged related to the execution of the search warrants where stolen firearms and $20000 in stolen firefighting equipment were recovered.

The 18-year-old male from Grimshaw, Alta. has been charged with the following:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of prohibited firearm
  • Possession of a weapon obtained by crime
  • Fail to comply with release order (x5)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (x2)
  • Breaking and entering (x2)
  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Theft over $5000 (x2)
  • Robbery to steal firearm

After a judicial hearing, the 18-year-old male was remanded into custody and will next be appearing in Peace River Provincial Court on Jan. 10, 2022.

A 15-year-old male youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with the following:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of prohibited firearm
  • Possession of a weapon obtained by crime

The youth was released from custody after a judicial hearing and is next scheduled to appear on Jan. 10, 2022, in Peace River Provincial Youth Court.

On Dec. 1, 2021, three search warrants were executed on multiple locations including two residences and a storage locker in Grimshaw, Alta. and surrounding area where five stolen firearms related to this investigation were recovered. Eight persons were arrested and detained for investigation while properties were searched; six were later released without charges.

A 45-year-old male from Grimshaw, Alta. has been charged with the following:

  • Possession controlled substance (x3)
  • Break enter and stealing firearms
  • Possession of a weapon obtained by crime
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Theft over $5000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

After a judicial hearing the 45-year-old male was remanded into custody and is next scheduled to appear in Peace River Provincial Court on Dec. 13, 2021.

A 47-year-old female from Grimshaw, Alta. has been charged with the following:

  • Possession controlled substance (x3)
  • Fail to comply (x2)

After a judicial hearing she was released on a $5000 Promise to Pay release order and is next scheduled to appear in Peace River Provincial Court on Jan. 10, 2022.

At this time Peace Regional General Investigation Section continues to investigate.

As these matters are before the courts, no further details surrounding the investigation can be provided.

Peace Regional RCMP heavy police presence in Grimshaw – Update

On Nov. 21, 2021, Peace Regional RCMP received a report of a break and enter to a property. Another complaint was received regarding a stolen vehicle at approximately 4 p.m. Later that same day at approximately 9:30 p.m., Peace Regional RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle, along with stolen firearms that had occurred in the Grimshaw, Alta. area.

Peace Regional RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), along with the Western Alberta District (WAD) RCMP GIS, conducted an investigation into all of these matters that resulted in the RCMP obtaining a warrant to search a residence in Grimshaw, Alta. for a number of items, including stolen firearms. On Nov. 23, 2021, the search warrant was executed with the assistance of the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team in the area of 45 Avenue and 53 Street in Grimshaw, Alta.

Peace Regional RCMP GIS and WAD GIS' presence at the residence will continue for several hours as their investigation into this matter continues. The Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team's involvement in this matter has now ended.

An update will be provided when more information can be shared.

Peace Regional RCMP heavy police presence in Grimshaw

Peace Regional RCMP would like to advise the public that there is a heavy police presence in the area of 45 Avenue and 53 Street in Grimshaw, Alta.

Peace Regional RCMP are conducting an active investigation where the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team is assisting with the execution of a search warrant that involves possible firearms.

Peace Regional RCMP are asking that the public please avoid the area, and refrain from posting photos and/or video on social media.

An update will be provided when available.
