RCMP arrest man for assault with a weapon and impaired driving

Halifax District RCMP have arrested a 51-year-old Dartmouth man following an incident in Lower Sackville.

At approximately 6:10 p.m. yesterday, police responded to a dangerous driving complaint on Brooks St. Further information indicated the car had also struck someone. Police located the vehicle on Old Sackville Rd. where the driver showed signs of impairment. He was arrested and brought to the Lower Sackville RCMP Detachment to be evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), who determined he was impaired by drugs. The vehicle was seized. The man struck did not appear injured.

The driver was released and is facing charges of Assault with a Weapon, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operation of a Conveyance while Impaired and Fail to comply with Undertaking. He was also charged for Driving While Licence Revoked under the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act. He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on June 30 at 9:30 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
