RCMP arrest man following traffic stop

RCMP Northwest Traffic Services has arrested a man for drug offences following a traffic stop on Pictou Rd. in Valley.

At approximately 11:40 a.m. yesterday morning, police observed a vehicle travelling on Pictou Rd. with no daytime running lights and the license plate on the vehicle was not visible. Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and spoke with the driver, a 26-year-old Bible Hill man. During the interaction with the driver, police noted a smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle. The man was arrested without incident under the Cannabis Control Act and a search of the vehicle was conducted incidental to arrest. During the search, police located a large bag containing a significant amount of cannabis and pills. Police also located a significant amount of cash.

The man was later released on conditions and will be facing a charge of Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Distribution. The man was also given two Summary Offence Tickets, one for Operating an Unregistered Vehicle, which carries a fine of $295, and the other for Operating a Vehicle without Insurance, which carries a fine of $1,272.50.

The man will appear in court at a later date.
