RCMP seeking possible victims of vehicle-related fraud

December 3, 2021
Richibucto Road, New Brunswick

News release

The New Brunswick RCMP's Financial Crime Unit is asking to speak to customers of a former car dealership in Richibucto Road, N.B., near Fredericton, as part of an ongoing fraud investigation.

Police have received several reports of possible frauds that occurred at DMR Auto Sales between January 2020 and September 2021. The fraud involved customers trading in vehicles that still had an outstanding balance remaining on them. The vehicles were sold to new owners without the balance being paid off, leaving the original owners with payments for both their new and old vehicles. To date, no arrest have been made.

"In many cases, the previous owner continued to have funds withdrawn from their account after the sale of the traded-in vehicle." says Cst. Francois Ouellet with the New Brunswick RCMP Financial Crime Unit. "We are working with both owners of the business in hopes to identify additional fraud victims."

The two owners of the former business are fully cooperating with the investigation.

Police are asking anyone who bought a vehicle from DMR Auto Sales between January 2020 and September 2021 to check their financial activity for any inconsistencies. If you were a customer of DMR Auto Sales during the specified time period and suspect you may have been a victim of fraud, please contact the RCMP Financial Crime Unit at 506-452-4219.

The investigation is ongoing.
